Pedro Bernardy is an award-winning and nationally certified health and wellness professional with over forty years of training experience. Pedro’s passion with physical fitness began as a youth when he first witnessed martial arts being demonstrated in samurai movies and by Bruce Lee in “The Green Hornet” television series during the 1960s. His desire to gain functional strength was both fueled and hampered by the lack of information available. In 1968 he attended a karate demonstration conducted by George Dillman who ran a highly successful dojo in his home town of Reading, Pennsylvania. Unable to afford formal lessons at that time. Pedro continued training from books and magazines he collected on various forms of combative arts. In 1973 he began formal training with Sensei Dillman. Pedro has never stopped training and continues to study and teach in the tradition of his instructors. These include Oyakawa Nobuichi (Roy), Kimo Wall, Matayoshi Shinpo, Nakamura Yoshio, Kenneth L. Penland, Jim Silvan, Hsiao-Fen and Jeff Marchese. He has also benefited from mentors such as Shinzato Katsuhiko, Wally Jay, Chris Peterson, Janice Okamoto, and George Arrington to name a few.
In 2003 Pedro retired from a career as an Information Technologies professional to pursue a mission as a full-time Personal Trainer and Martial Arts instructor. His clients range in ages from 4 years to 84 years and across a diverse set of needs. His current practice extends to members at The Bay Club, Walnut Creek (formally Renaissance Club Sport), his private studio in Concord, California, and various hospitals, recovery facilities and community centers.
