Karate Kids Program  (Ages 4- Teen)

These exciting classes will help children build self-confidence, gain self-discipline, and improve fitness through basic self-protection and traditional martial arts training. Classes are held weekly at The Bay Club (formerly Renaissance Club Sport) in Walnut Creek and open to all members. Our schedule is as follows:

Ages 4 to 5 years: 3:30 PM – 4:15 PM

Ages 6 to 8 years:  4:30 PM – 5:15 PM

Ages 9 and above: 5:30 PM – 6:15 PM

Class Fee: $100/month. Siblings receive a 10% discount.

Students from age four years to teenage receive instruction in basic self-defense techniques and safety awareness. Lessons consist of practice of basic strikes and blocking techniques, role-playing scenarios, and lectures on practical safety tips. Students also learn fundamental lessons on the cultural aspects of our martial arts, including basic Japanese grammar used during class to provide a complete experience and appreciation of their lessons. Parents and guardians are encouraged to observe and participate in each class to enhance their understanding of this training.

Students above the age of eight years receive instruction in Okinawan Karate and basics of Small Circle Jujitsu. Our Karate practice is based on a curriculum of technique from Okinawan styles known as Shuri-Te, Naha-Te, and Tomari-Te from the areas on the island of Okinawa where these techniques were developed.   Jujitsu basics taught in the RyuBuKan Dojo are from Jim Silvan Sensei and his teacher, Professor Wally Jay, founder of Small Circle Jujitsu.
